Happy Birthday Zoey {Winnipeg dog photographer}

I couldn’t let our little Cockapoo’s birthday go by without updating her portrait as well.  Zoey turned 7 in June this year and we always have a little celebration.  The kids love dressing her up in wacky outfits and she’s such a sweet girl that she just lets us have our fun with her.  Happy Birthday Zoey!

Mine {Winnipeg child photographer}

I posted on my Facebook page that my youngest daughter had turned 6 back in May.  Somehow between all the sessions, extra curricular sports and end of school activities it took me a couple of months to get her out to do her 6 year old session done.  One nice evening a few weeks ago I decided this would be the night and I took her out to a park in our neighbourhood.  My oldest will be turning 16 (oh how the time has flown) in a few weeks.  I thought I’d tackle her pictures as well.  I ordered a nice canvas of her to put up on our wall – can’t wait to get it.   It’s taken me this long to actually get them edited and since I  haven’t posted pictures of my kids for quite awhile, I thought I would share these recent ones with you.  I’m hoping to fit my 13 (almost 14) year old daughter in for a session sometime in the next month too :) Winnipeg child photographer, outdoor photo sessions, 6 year old pictures, tween picture ideas, pictures at the park

Beautiful Spring Blooms {Winnipeg photographer}

Couldn’t resist snapping some pics of the tree out front in full bloom with that beautiful evening light.

Oh how I love my little one

Grabbed my little one and ran out for a quick little session this weekend.  Hard to believe that she used to turn her head and look the other way when I brought out the camera.  Now she is running around grabbing props and making wardrobe choices!  Decided to process these a little differently than I typically do — trying my hand at that light and dreamy look.  Can’t wait to head out with her again.

My Little Sunshine

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.  You make me happy when skies are grey.

You’ll never know dear, how much I love you.  Please don’t take my sunshine away.

I’m not sure how the past 5 years have gone by so quickly.  My youngest had her 5th birthday at the beginning of this month and I just finally found the time to get some images of this milestone in her life.  She is my 3rd daughter and I remember when I had her that I decided I was just going to treasure every minute spent with her.  With my first one I was in such a rush to see her roll over for the first time, crawl, get her first tooth, walk, etc…. When my second came along I found life was just taking over and I probably missed a lot of the little things with the busyness of a house with a 2 year old and a newborn.  So, when Erin came along I was bound and determined to not be in such a rush for her to grow up too quickly.  Of course she was on a different agenda.  With 2 older sisters to keep up with she was walking at 9.5 months and has never looked back.  Fiercely independent and in a rush to grow up the time has passed very quickly.  She is so excited to be 5 years old now and ready for Kindergarten — me – not so much.  Here is my little sunshine…

Homemade Doggie treats

We have an adorable little Cockapoo that we all love dearly.  Her name is Zoey.  Over the past years I have read so much about the additives and unsafe ingredients in not only our food, but the food that our pets eat as well.  In an effort to ensure that our little girl is with us as long as possible I have been making homemade biscuits for her since we brought her home almost 3 years ago.  Her treat jar is nearly empty so it was time for a marathon baking session.  My husband pitched in and enjoyed grinding up the raw liver in the blender (not really) and rolling out the Plaque Buster Biscuits.

The recipe for the Plaque Buster Biscuits can be found in a great little book I picked up called MacPherson’s K-9 Cookbook – you can find it here.  I will share the other recipe with you since this was given to me by a lady at the Puppy Training classes we attended back when we first got Zoey.  She LOVES these biscuits and will do anything for one – although I will warn you – your house will take on a bit of an unpleasant odour while they are baking so you may want to do this on a nice sunny day when you can throw all the windows open!You can see from the bottom picture just how much Zoey love these treats.  She is waiting patiently for them to cool on the cutting board and staring at me while I take the trays out of the oven.  This is what the Liver Treats look like after you cut them up.  I store them in the freezer in a ziploc bag and just keep a little container in the fridge which I fill up every couple of days.

Liver Treat recipe

In a blender mix 1/2 cup water, 1 pound fresh liver and 1 egg.

In a large bowl combine, 1/2 cup powdered milk, 1/2 cup wheat germ, 1 cup cornmeal, 1 cup whole wheat flour, and about a teaspoon of garlic powder.

Pour the pureed liver mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until it is smooth.

Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and pour the liver mixture on to the sheet.  I usually try and smooth it out so it is fairly uniform.  Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Remove from oven and slice it in to little bites while it is still hot.  I find a pizza cutter works really well for this.  Cool and freeze.

Leave me a comment if you try these with your dog.  I’d love to know if they liked them as much as our little dog!

Fairy Party {Winnipeg Photographer}

Today we threw a birthday party for our youngest daughter who was turning 4.  Hard to believe that 4 years have already passed!  She is a real girly girl and loves to play dressup and wear jewellery and make-up.  As I was searching the internet for ideas for her party I came across a great website and decided to book a party with them.  Through the years with my other girls I have always opted to do the whole thing myself — decorating, activities, crafts, and letting them pick out a cake which I would make and decorate for them.  Although I love the creativity this allows me — it does take away from the chance to enjoy the party.  I found I was always running around getting the next thing ready and cleaning up, etc… and didn’t really have alot of time to just enjoy the moment and take some photos!

So,this year I found “Dress Up and Play” and just knew this was the way to go.  I highly recommend this for your kids next party.  You can check out her website here www.dressupandplayparties.com

Cindy came and decorated, brought great crafts and dress up costumes for the girls and even brought the cake.  We made fairy crowns, fairy houses, went on a fairy hunt and played fairy games.  The girls had a great time.

Here are a few images from our day…
